How to play

1. Set up the game

Ask the children to join you in the middle of the room.

Explain that you will call out two options and they must decide which one they prefer.

2. Split the room

Designate one side of the room for one option and the opposite side for the other.

The children must run to the option they like best - and are not allowed to stay in the middle!

Call out different choices, giving the children time to listen, think and move. Some examples include:

  • Cats or dogs
  • Chocolate or ice cream
  • Sun or snow
  • Red or blue

3. Keep the fun going

Continue calling out options, keeping the pace lively and encouraging confident decisions.

What it teaches

  • Listening and responding quickly
  • Decision-making and commitment
  • Confidence in personal choice
  • Spatial awareness
  • Energy and focus

Principal's notes

This game works well as a warm-up or energiser. Keep instructions clear and the pace brisk to maintain excitement. Encourage children to commit fully to their choice and avoid hovering between options. You can extend the game by asking a few children to explain their choice, but keep this optional to maintain momentum.
