By talking about their favourite things and explaining why they like them, they build confidence, vocabulary and communication skills.
1. Introduce the detective theme
Ask your child what detectives do and how they gather clues.
2. Explain the challenge
Explain to your child that they are going to give clues about their favourite fruit and explain why they like it.
3. Model the example
Demonstrate a detailed answer such as:
"My favourite fruit is strawberries because they are sweet, juicy, and bright red."
4. Encourage praise words
Remind your child to include lots of positive describing words.
For example:
5. Take turns speaking
Invite your child to share their favourite fruit and reasons.
6. Continue with other topics
If you want to continue playing, repeat using different favourites such as foods, animals, or colours.
Children often need encouragement to explain "why" rather than giving one-word answers. Praise expressive language and detailed reasoning. The detective structure keeps the exercise playful while helping children build confidence speaking in front of others.
