1. Introduce fables and choose a story
Explain that fables are stories that teach an important lesson. Choose a patience-themed story, such as The Hare and the Tortoise or The King's Assistant, and tell the story clearly to the children.
2. Create the scenes
Divide the children into small groups and ask each group to create a short acted version of the story. Encourage them to think about character emotions, movement, dialogue and storytelling.
3. Perform the stories
Invite each group to perform their scene to the class. Encourage the children to use expressive voices, movement and facial expressions to bring the story to life.
4. Discuss the lesson
After the performances, talk together about the story's message and how patience helped the characters succeed. Ask the children to think about times when being patient can be helpful.
Stories about patience work particularly well because children can clearly see the consequences of rushing or giving up too quickly. Encourage expressive storytelling and help children connect the lesson of the fable to real-life situations.
