Hello and welcome to Perform Islington at St James Church Hall - a new kind of drama school that has child development at its very heart. At Perform, we use drama, dance and singing to build children's social skills and help them grow in confidence so they can fulfil their potential.

We started running classes at St James Church Hall in September 2012 and are currently here every week during term-time on Saturdays and Thursdays.

At Perform Islington, the Producers of the classes are Joanna and Niyi and the Teachers are Gabrielle and Maisie. The sessions are looked after by our Area Partners, Jade and Oliver.

The current term runs from 3rd September to 17th December with no sessions on 29th October (half-term).

How to get here and parking:

From Essex Road, turn down Packington Street and you will find the hall at the bottom on the left-hand side, on the corner of Prebend Street.

On-site parking is not available. Pay-and-display on-street bays operate on Prebend Street and surrounding roads, subject to local controlled parking rules.

Essex Road railway station is a five-minute walk away. Angel Underground station is also within easy walking distance, and local buses run frequently along nearby Essex Road and New North Road.

We spend a lot of time recruiting, training and evaluating our wonderful Area Partners, Producers and Teachers and the team at St James Church Hall in Islington are no exception. As at all Perform schools, they have all been hand-picked for being enthusiastic, approachable and, of course, fantastic with children. I have been producing classes at Perform since 2023. It's such a pleasure to watch children's confidence blossom and I am always so impressed with the progress of each and every child in our classes. Outside of Perform, you will often find me running to raise money for Diabetes UK - I am Type One and I love raising awareness!

Niyi

I love producing classes with Perform. I love that I get to help build children's confidence and through my years at Perform, I've seen the benefit of our classes and have so many accounts from our parents. Outside of Perform, I love going to see theatre! My current favourite is Into The Woods!

Gabrielle

I've been teaching with Perform since 2026. I love working with children and seeing their self-belief and individuality grow week to week. Watching the children's confidence flourish is amazing to see. Outside of Perform, I enjoy going to the theatre to watch plays and musicals - my favourite musical is The Lion King!

Maisie

I started teaching with Perform in 2026. It is a joy to see and work with children at Perform on developing strong communication skills, self belief and confidence in such a fun and supportive environment. Outside of Perform I'm a singer, so it is wonderful to be able to share my stage experience with the children on a weekly basis. My vocal idol is Adele!

AREA PARTNER

Jade

I trained in Musical Theatre at Midlands Academy Of Dance and Drama I started teaching at Perform back in 2006, and I still absolutely love it today! It's so rewarding to see every child flourish and grow in confidence term by term. I am also a Perform Area Partner, so every day brings a different job! Outside of Perform, you'll usually find me at a football pitch or scooter park watching my children play. I also enjoy reformer Pilates and trips to the theatre.

AREA PARTNER

Oliver

Hi, I'm Oli! I've been with Perform since 2012 and work as an Area Partner, as well as running my own classes. Outside of Perform, I produce theatre shows and work in artist and live event management. Children have an incredible ability to find joy in the world around them, and that's one of the things I love most about my job. As an Area Partner, it's a privilege to support and develop our Teachers, helping even more children celebrate their individuality and discover what they're capable of.
