The Trust Game

Children in drama class
Child development / Drama games / The trust game

This simple trust exercise helps children experience responsibility and care while working with a partner.

As they guide each other safely, they develop trust, communication skills and an awareness of space.

The activity also encourages calm focus and supports thoughtful, responsible decision-making.

How to play

1. Pair up

Ask each child to find a partner. Then, ask one child in each group to close their eyes.

2. Guide each other around the room

The partner with eyes open then gently leads them around the room, ensuring they move safely and avoid obstacles and other people.

Explain that the child with eyes closed is trusting their partner completely, and the partner leading must take full responsibility for their safety.

3. Observe then swap roles

Only allow a small number of pairs to work at one time, while the others watch. After a short time, swap roles.

What it teaches

  • Trust and responsibility
  • Awareness of others and space
  • Calm focus
  • Partnership and care
  • Responsible decision-making by prioritising safety

Variations to try

  • Use verbal guidance only
  • Lead through different pathways
  • Introduce a clear start and finish point
