The fast pace encourages quick reflexes and spatial awareness, while the dancing brings out creativity and confidence.
This game works brilliantly as a warm-up or a lively break between other activities, either at home or in the classroom.
1. Find a partner
Ask each child to stand with a partner. If there is an odd number, the grown-up can join in or one child can sit out for a round.
2. Start the dancing
Put on lively music and let pairs dance together. Encourage silliness and big movements, whether they freestyle or simply hold hands and jump.
3. Stop the music
When the music stops, shout: "NEXT!"
Everyone must quickly run and find a brand new partner before the music starts again.
4. Eliminate the slowcoaches
If a child has not found a new partner when the music begins, they are out and sit down. Continue playing until only two dancers remain.
This is a brilliant icebreaker for slightly older children who love movement and fun. It encourages connection, laughter and quick thinking - all wrapped up in music and games.
