By focusing attention on what they can see, hear, feel, smell, and taste, children practise grounding themselves and developing calm concentration.
1. Discuss what the senses are
Begin by asking the children how many senses they think we have. Invite them to name the senses together.

Explain that one way to stay calm and focused is to be mindful of the space around us.
Ask the children to sit down comfortably and quietly, keeping their bodies still.

Guide them to slowly look around the room and, in their own minds, identify:

Remind them that this is a quiet, personal activity and there are no right or wrong answers.
This exercise is particularly effective for calming a group or helping children reset after busy or energetic activities.
