Perform 7-12 child
Child development / Drama games / Fortune teller

This activity encourages empathy and creative thinking while building improvisation and communication skills.

It helps children explore conflict resolution and understand different perspectives in a safe and playful way.

Perform 7-12 child

How to play

1. Start the scene

Arrange three chairs, with one facing the other two. Then, choose three volunteers from the group.

One becomes the fortune teller and the other two are clients.

2. Predict and act

The fortune teller predicts that the two clients will have a disagreement. The clients then act out the disagreement and work together to find a solution.

3. Group collaboration

If the clients struggle to resolve it, the teacher can invite ideas from the rest of the class to support them.

What it teaches

  • Conflict resolution through dialogue and empathy
  • Imaginative improvisation and teamwork
  • The value of listening and problem-solving

Variations to try

  • Assign specific character types or settings to the players for themed conflict (e.g. pirate and parrot, siblings, shopkeeper and customer).
  • Give the fortune teller a specific disagreement topic (e.g. sharing a toy, choosing what game to play).

Principal's notes

This is a great way to explore emotional intelligence while keeping it imaginative and fun. Let the class laugh at the silly fortunes, but always return to the heart of the activity, resolving differences calmly and fairly.
