This game brings structured arguments to life, helping children build confidence, empathy, and fairness in a playful setting.

Perform 7-12 child

How to play

1. Set the scene

Choose one person to be the Judge. Ask the group to suggest a disagreement or conflict between two fictional characters, for example, "They both want the last slice of cake," or "One borrowed something and hasn't returned it!"

2. Present the arguments

Select two children to act as the barristers, one representing each side of the disagreement.

Each barrister has one minute to argue their case clearly and persuasively.

3. Decide the outcome

The Judge listens carefully and then delivers a fair resolution that considers both sides.

What it teaches

  • Verbal communication and persuasive argument construction
  • Fairness, empathy, and the ability to consider multiple perspectives
  • Confidence in speaking to an audience

Variations to try

  • Let the Judge ask follow-up questions before making their ruling
  • Try group versions with a jury instead of a single judge, and take a vote at the end
  • Add costumes or props for fun - a gavel, wigs, etc.

Principal's notes

This game introduces children to basic justice principles in a playful, accessible way. It helps them understand how arguments are formed and resolved with logic and fairness, while also boosting confidence in speaking clearly and respectfully.
