As children form and reform bubbles of different sizes, they naturally practise cooperation, spatial awareness and listening skills, all while having fun and feeling part of the group.
It is an ideal warm-up for younger children and a gentle way to build confidence, connection and energy in the room.
1. Get ready
Gather your pot of bubbles or mime blowing them if you don't have any. Blow some bubbles and talk about what they are, what they're made of and how they look.
2. Become baby bubbles
Ask the children to move around the space as Baby Bubbles - alone but with hands joined to look like one whole bubble.
When you say Bubbles 2, they must find a partner. When you say Bubbles 3, they must form groups of three, and so on.
Continue calling different numbers to keep them listening and moving.
3. Bubbles all
Call out "Bubbles all!" Everyone joins hands to become one giant bubble, moving carefully together.
4. Bubbles pop
Call out "Bubbles pop!" All the bubbles burst and the children gently fall to the floor.
5. Play safely
Remind the children not to bump into other bubbles and not to let go of hands unless you tell them to.
This game is always a hit with younger children because it feels playful and magical. It works brilliantly as a warm-up to get everyone moving and mixing in different group sizes. I've found it especially useful for less confident children as they quickly discover partners and groups without pressure. It's light, fun and subtly teaches teamwork and spatial awareness.
