At Perform Cambridge at Browns Field Community Centre, our focus is not about teaching rigorous techniques, memorisation and repetition to produce a 'perfect performance'. Instead, we use drama-based games, exercises, songs and dances in an imaginative and fun way to help boost child development.

We started running classes at Browns Field Community Centre in May 2025 and are currently here every week during term-time on Tuesdays.

At Perform Cambridge, the Producer of the classes is James and the Teacher is James. The sessions are looked after by our Area Partner, Sophie.

The current term runs from 1st September to 15th December with no sessions on 27th October (half-term).

How to get here and parking:

To reach the venue by car, travel via Milton Road (A1309) into northern Cambridge, then turn onto Green End Road where the community centre is located.

Free parking is available in a small dedicated car park adjacent to the building, which includes designated accessible bays.

The nearest railway station is Cambridge North. Regular local bus services stop directly along Green End Road close to the entrance

Creative Team

We spend a lot of time recruiting, training and evaluating our wonderful Area Partners, Producers and Teachers and the team at Browns Field Community Centre in Cambridge are no exception. As at all Perform schools, they have all been hand-picked for being enthusiastic, approachable and, of course, fantastic with children. As a result, you can be confident that your child is in the best of hands. Here are the details of the Creative Team at this venue:

PRODUCER

James

I've been teaching with Perform since 2016: what started as a way of keeping body and soul together between theatre tours quickly developed into a passion there's no greater privilege than to facilitate and be entertained by children's endless creativity, or to see a previously reticent child suddenly find their voice. Outside of Perform, I'm a songwriter and musician. One day, I may even finish an album!

TEACHER

James

My name is James and I've been a teacher at Perform since graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a BA in Musical Theatre. Since then, through Perform, I get to teach some wonderful children in multiple venues every week and audition for West End and Regional shows at the same time. Playfulness and immediacy is at the heart of my teaching at Perform and I aim to cultivate those qualities in the children each week.

AREA PARTNER

Sophie

I'm a Perform Teacher, Producer and Area Partner. I trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and alongside working for Perform have appeared in many television programmes for the BBC and Channel 4. Recently, I've been in several of the Perform shows in the West End! What I love about teaching for Perform is seeing how much children change during their time with us. It is a joy to see children having so much fun as they are learning!

We still cannot quite believe our son's response and reaction to Perform. The fact that on his second visit he asked to walk into the class independently is testament to James and the team and how comfortable and confident they have made him feel.
