It creates a supportive atmosphere while helping children practise speaking clearly in front of a group.
1. Introduce the idea
Talk to the children about how everyone is special in their own way. Give a few simple examples, such as being kind, funny, helpful, creative or brave.
Then model the activity by sharing something special about yourself: "I'm special because I have a lovely singing voice."
2. Think and share
Give your child a quiet moment to think about something that makes them special. Then invite them to complete the sentence: "I'm special because..." If you're playing with a group, take turns going around the circle.
3. Listen and celebrate
Encourage everyone to listen carefully and respectfully while others are speaking. Celebrate every answer with a warm, positive response.
There are no right or wrong answers - the aim is to help children recognise their own qualities and build confidence.
Some children may initially find it difficult to talk positively about themselves, so gentle encouragement is important. Allow children to pass if they need more thinking time. This activity helps create a positive classroom atmosphere and supports emotional wellbeing alongside communication skills.
