Children learn to guide others using sound while practising cooperation, controlled movement and calm focus.
It also strengthens concentration and builds a deeper awareness of how sound and space work together.
1. Split the group
Divide the group so that half are rocks and half are lifeboats. Choose two children to be the ships.
2. Find space around the room
Ask the rocks to find their own space around the room and stand still. Then, ask the lifeboats to sit together on one side of the room.
3. Avoid bumping into the rocks
Ask the two ships to walk slowly around the room with their eyes closed (careful adult supervision is essential!)
The ships must avoid bumping into the rocks. The rocks help the ships by making gentle wave sounds so the ships can hear where obstacles are.
4. Swap roles
After a short time, stop the game and swap roles so different children get a turn.
Encourage rocks to make consistent, calm sounds rather than sudden noises. This game works well for building trust and attentiveness within a group.
