By speaking for a full minute, they build confidence, focus and the ability to talk about others positively while keeping the group engaged.
1. Form a circle
Ask the children to sit or stand in a circle and explain that each of them will speak for one whole minute, introducing themselves and one other member of the group.
2. Choose someone
Give the children a moment to choose another member of the group to talk about and think about what they might say.
3. Start speaking
One child at a time introduces themselves first, then talks about the chosen child - who they are, what they like or something positive about them. Encourage them to keep speaking even if they pause briefly.
4. Celebrate effort
After each turn, celebrate the child's effort and positive introduction to reinforce confidence and encouragement.
5. Continue around the circle
Repeat until everyone has had a turn, supporting attentive listening and sustained speaking throughout.
This is a brilliant confidence-building challenge that combines listening with sustained speaking. Children practise holding an audience's attention while speaking positively about others, strengthening both communication skills and group relationships.
