By passing a whispered message down the line, they explore how small changes in speech or attention can affect understanding.
1. Form lines
Divide the group into two groups and ask each group to form a line, one child standing behind another.
2. Start the whisper
Go to the back of each line and whisper a simple sentence to the first child in line.
3. Pass it along
Each child turns and whispers the sentence to the next child down the line. Explain that the aim is for the sentence to stay exactly the same.
4. Check the result
When the sentence reaches the final child, ask them to say it out loud and compare it to the original sentence.
5. Discuss accuracy
Talk about how careful listening and clear whispering help keep the message accurate, emphasising that this is about accuracy, not speed.
This is a brilliant reminder of how easily instructions can change if we do not listen carefully. It reinforces the importance of accuracy and attention to detail, which is essential when following directions in rehearsals and performances.
