Dive into the magical world of words! Our curriculum-linked literacy workshops inspire young learners to explore language, stories and self-expression through creative, playful learning.

Led by experienced facilitators, each session blends storytelling, role-play, music and movement to spark imagination, build confidence and develop key literacy skills. From inventing characters and crafting stories to exploring rhyme, rhythm and rich vocabulary, these immersive workshops bring reading and writing to life in the classroom encouraging every child to find their voice and love of language.

Popular books

Sessions are based around a number of popular books and designed to reinforce children's experiences with literature.

Dive into the magical world of books where children will:

  • Learn to re-cap and enact a story
  • Learn about hot-seating and character role-play
  • Improvise around the themes of the story
  • Take part in a group discussion about what we have learnt

Books to choose from include: Angry Arthur, The Highway Rat, The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, Where the Wild Things Are, The Gingerbread Man, The Gruffalo and others.

Also new Roald Dahl workshops on Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Boy: Tales of Childhood, The Giraffe the Pelly and Me, The Twits, George's Marvellous Medicine and The BFG.

Learning objectives:

  • How to summarise a story synopsis
  • To dig deeper into characters within the story
  • To think critically about the themes/ emotions in the story
  • To feel more immersed in the world of the book

Shakespeare

Written from an actor's perspective, these workshops focuses Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer's Night Dream to explore Shakespeare's legacy and why he is still so relevant today.

Dive into the expansive world of Shakespeare, and through the lens of this great writer, the children will:

  • Learn the different types/genres of plays Shakespeare wrote, and the key differences between a comedy, tragedy and a history play
  • Discover how to orientate around a professional stage with training in Stage Left, Stage Right, Up Stage, Down Stage and Centre Stage
  • Freeze-frame iconic scenes of each play

Learning objectives:

  • To speak audibly and fluently with an increasing command of standard English
  • To participate in role play
  • To decipher different genres of literature
  • To feel more comfortable with the language of Shakespeare

Curriculum links:

World Book Day

Bring a book to life on World Book Day 2026 with a Perform drama-based workshop. Our trained actors will bring the magic of a story to life through acting, character role-play and improvisation.

Just choose which books you'd like us to bring to life (we can even explore a different book for each class). Each workshop lasts 50 minutes for a class of up to 30 children. We can cover 3 books in half a day or 5 books in a full day. See below for some of the plans we offer.

Using games and the imagination children will:

  • Meet certain characters in the book up close
  • Play games and improvise around the themes of the story
  • Learn to consider the story as a whole and what it teaches us

Alice in Wonderland

Tumble down the rabbit hole with Alice into the magical world of Wonderland and meet well-known characters including the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit.

With music, movement, and interactive scenes, this adventure brings Lewis Carroll's classic to life in a way that's accessible, silly and full of wonder. Through interactive drama, children will:

  • Shrink and grow in a magical warm-up through Wonderland-themed movement.
  • Take part in a character command game featuring the Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat and others.
  • Recreate scenes such as Alice falling down the rabbit hole and exploring the mysterious hallway.
  • Join the Mad Hatter's Tea Party for a storytelling twist they'll never forget!

Learning objectives:

  • Develop confident communication through imaginative role play.
  • Use physical movement and vocal expression to embody character.
  • Explore classic literature through drama-based storytelling.

  • KS1 English (Stories, spoken language & comprehension)
  • KS1 Drama & Performance
  • PSHE (Confidence, imagination, and collaboration)

This workshop pairs brilliantly with our Fairy Tale Adventures or can stand alone as a magical literary experience.
