Timer time
Help your child understand the passage of time with this game. You'll need a timer.
Begin by explaining how long you are going to set the timer for. It's sometimes best to keep this to a minimum - e.g. one minute - to avoid your child complaining of boredom! Watch the timer with them as it counts down.
So now they know how long a minute is. Now set the timer again and get them to do different activities for one minute - e.g. running around the garden, playing hopscotch etc. You can also use this game to get them to tidy up - e.g. lets see how many toys you can put in your toy box in one minute.
As they get more used to how long a minute is they will begin to better understand longer periods of time. You can of course get them to do activities for longer than a minute too!
