Hot seating

Imaginative play is great for children's development. At Perform we play a game called Hot seating to help children learn to develop characters through play.

You'll need a couple of your child's favourite toys - e.g. a teddy bears / superheroes / dolls etc.

Ask your child to imagine how their toy might talk - for example a superhero might talk with a big booming voice, a teddy bear might growl, a doll might have a squeaky voice and so on.

Ask some questions like how old are you? What sort of food do you like to eat? Slowly build up a character for each toy.

You can then ask your child to imagine how the toys might talk to each other - you can supply the voice for one toy, and your child can supply the voice and character of the other.

Take them on an adventure - perhaps they go to a faraway land - who might they meet there? What sort of adventures might they go on? Children love this sort of game - the wilder the adventure - the better!
