Object Permanence

At around five months, babies begin to understand something called object permanence. This means that they begin to understand that something is still there, even if they can't see it.

A variation on hide and seek, this game is a great way to help them understand this concept.

You'll need one of their favourite toys and boxes or bags of different sizes to hide the toy in. Pop the toy in a bag, then a bigger bag, then a box etc until there are several layers of packaging.

As you remove each layer of packaging ask - Is your toy in here? Keep going until you've removed all of the layers of packaging and say ‘there it is!' Your baby will find the game really entertaining and will probably make a grab for the toy when it does finally appear.
