Workshop format

Our Explorer Workshops are run by our professionally trained workshop leaders who are fully-trained, working actors. Each session is created around the particular theme or subject you choose. The format varies but in general there will be:

  • A short introduction by the workshop leader, introducing the theme/subject as well as themselves.
  • A series of ‘ice breaker games’ and a physical warm-up to help the group connect, focus and be physically ready for an exciting adventure.
  • An immersive and imaginative journey through the chosen topic, for example, you might take an imaginary time capsule back in time for a history topic.
  • Improvisation, role play, hot seating and various other drama techniques to deliver information and key facts.
  • Originally written Perform songs or raps that are also great to use within the classroom for follow-up work.
  • A ten question recap and cool down to finish.

The children really enjoyed the sessions. I wasn't sure how it would work online, but Rachel held their attention extremely well. She was calm and clear with her instructions and made sure that everyone had a chance to speak. They were all involved and joined in with the activities and said that was the best time ever.

– Mrs K Thurston

The children enjoyed all of the activities, particularly using their imaginations to act out the story of The Snail and the Whale. They loved learning about opposites and teamwork, and used their listening skills to recreate freeze frames.

– Miss J Smith

Hannah is always full of energy and fully engages the children.

– Ms. T Marquand

Hannah was, as always, engaging, enthusiastic and informative. What a wonderful way to kick-start our pupil's learning about Florence Nightingale!

Thank you!

– Mr M Lavery

Holly was absolutely amazing carrying out Healthy Me' workshop. She engaged the classes and questioned them on their knowledge learnt so far. The children had such fun and learnt a great rap!

– Ms. S Parish

The children learnt a lot and enjoyed it too. I liked the way the leader went through events first and then broke them down in detail and then the children acted it out. Great behaviour management too.

– Mrs G Hewitt

Please pass on our thanks to India for working hard with all the classes. She was very enthusiastic and the children all enjoyed participating. She observed social distancing and I would be happy to recommend.

– Ms. L Downes

Children were engaged and interested throughout - Hannah gave clear instructions and guidance to inspire the pupils, there was a real buzz in school afterwards!

– Ms. F Sinsbury

Katie was fantastic. Even over Zoom. She really brought the topic to life. The children in class loved it and I could see the children at home were enjoying themselves too.

– Mr D Parris

We thought Bethany delivered an excellent workshop on anti bullying. It was relevant to the age of the children and explained well about what bullying is (and isn't) and made good links to the worries they have with friends on the playground.

Thank you very much!
